Sta.sh
It is a dark and cold night.
I can see my breath when I breathe.
I stop and stare into a store window.
I imagine having the beautiful necklace,
wrapped around my neck.
I continue walking,
In search of what I'm looking for.
I keep my head down,
staring at the ground below me.
I sense something closing in,
But I pay no attention to it.
I feel the sudden pressure
On my arm
As if I ran into something.
I fall to the ground.
I look up and apologize
To the gentle man I ran into.
He extends his arm out
As if wanting to pick me up.
I grab his hand
As he lifts me to my feet.
I thank him for his kindness.
He looks into my eyes,
And responds "no need to apologize."
I dust myself off and look to him.
He tells me that my eyes tell a story.
I chuckle for a brief moment
Not knowing what he's talking about.
He asks me if my life has been hell.
My eyes widen and I ask
"How do you know that?"
He tells me that he saw it in my eyes.
I'm confused and a bit surprised.
But instead of questioning him,
I laugh it off.
Before I upset the gentle man,
I walk away from him thanking him again.
He shouts back to me,
"You should stop running away from the right answers!"
I stop in my tracks.
I turn around to see him staring warmly at me.
He walks over to me with a smile,
And tells me that life is going to get better.
I ask him how he knows that information,
He looks into my eyes and responds,
"Your eyes are the windows into your soul."
I laugh it off again.
He shakes his head and smiles.
"You laugh when you're nervous
And when someone is right." He says.
I stop laughing and look into his warm eyes.
He smiles and starts walking away from me.
I ask if he is a psychic.
He turns slightly around and responds....
"You can cover up your real emotion with a smile,
But the eyes will always tell a different story."
I look down at the ground while his words
Stay locked within my mind.
I look up to see if the gentle man was there,
He was not.
I turned around and started my walk along the street again.
I stopped and looked into the same store window.
This time my focus was on my eyes.
His words still within my head.
I stare at my eyes while hearing
"Your eyes are the windows into your soul"
For once in my life,
I am able to feel and see my real emotion.
